چکیده

Introduction Ticks lay their eggs in the environment and cover the eggs in a waxy layer to protect them from desiccation and microbial attack. This wax is produced by an organ known as Gene ́s Organ. Bio prospection has shown the presence of active principles in the hemolymph of arthropods as well as in the salivary glands of ticks. Some of these are of interest for the development of new pharmacological drugs. In this study, different tick species were used to test the antimicrobial effect of the extract obtained from the wax envolving the eggs.

Detection of Borrelia DNA in Ornithodoros tholozani ticks and their eggs

Introduction: Spirochetes of Borrelia can be visualized directly in infected ticks by dark-field microscopy. Inoculation of in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) suspension of ground Argasid soft ticks to susceptible animals or allowing the ticks to feed on the same species followed by microscopic examination of the animals’ blood have also been practiced. With the advent of molecular method...

Non-Invasive Delivery of dsRNA into De-Waxed Tick Eggs by Electroporation

RNA interference-mediated gene silencing was shown to be an efficient tool for validation of targets that may become anti-tick vaccine components. Here, we demonstrate the application of this approach in the validation of components of molecular signaling cascades, such as the Protein Kinase B (AKT)/Glycogen Synthase Kinase (GSK) axis during tick embryogenesis. It was shown that heptane and hyp...

Innate Immunity in Ticks: A review

Ticks transmit mere different kinds ef pathogenic organisms than any other hematophagous arthropod. This paper attcmpts to review the literature available on the cell-mediated and humoTa] responses ofticks. The eell-mediated defense responses by invertebrates are impler than vertebrates, but are elTectivc as a second line ofdefense against invasion by microorganisms. Hemocytes play a major role...

Cross-Species Interferon Signaling Boosts Microbicidal Activity within the Tick Vector.

Evolution of hematophagy in blood-sucking parasites likely involves communication with their hosts. We find that Ixodes ticks are responsive to IFNγ acquired in a blood meal from mice infected with the Lyme disease-causing bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi, leading to induction of antimicrobial responses. Ixodes ticks parasitizing B. burgdorferi-infected mice upregulated an I. scapularis Rho-like G...

Bacteria associated with Amblyomma cajennense tick eggs

Ticks represent a large group of pathogen vectors that blood feed on a diversity of hosts. In the Americas, the Ixodidae ticks Amblyomma cajennense are responsible for severe impact on livestock and public health. In the present work, we present the isolation and molecular identification of a group of culturable bacteria associated with A. cajennense eggs from females sampled in distinct geogra...
